Today, the Giants signed ex-Jet punter Steve Weatherford to a deal. He will be the one to either push or replace Dodge, Jerry Reese's seventh-round selection of a year ago.
The vision of Tom Coughlin scolding Matt Dodge after he failed to kick the ball away from Philly's DeSean Jackson is the signature moment of Dodge's Giant career.
May we add, it was the straw that broke the camel's back after many inconsistent moments Dodge provided in his rookie season.
The 28-year-old Weatherford is obviously no stranger to the terrain and should easily challenge, if not wrest, the punter position from the erratic Dodge.
As per out colleague Zach Berman of the Star-Ledger...
Steve Weatherford, according to, well, Weatherford, who wrote on his Twitter account, "I'm on my way back to NYC but my helmet has changed. I'm excited to get the opportunity to help this prestigious franchise win a world title."
Weatherford then added, "Very blessed to help carry on a prestigious tradition in the greatest city in the world. New York Football Giants!!! Go Blue!!!"
