The Giants may spend part of their summer in the suburbs of Detroit, holding a few days of joint practices with the Lions.
The two teams are in talks about holding the joint workouts, according to a source, which would take place sometime during the week of Aug. 12-18. The training camp sessions would lead up to the Giants' Week 2 preseason game against the Lions at Ford Field in Detroit on Friday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m.
The dates and details of the joint practices, which would take place at the Lions' practice facility in Allen Park, Michigan, are still being negotiated.
New Giants coach Pat Shurmur first opened up the possibility of holding joint practices in an interview at the NFL owners meetings in late March. He seemed to be a fan of them, after taking part in joint workouts with the Patriots and Ravens while he was the offensive coordinator in Philadelphia from 2013 to 2015.
The Giants have had joint practices with other teams during training camp over the years, including with the New England Patriots and the Jets. The last time they did it was in 2015, when Tom Coughlin was still their coach and they travelled to Cincinnati to workout with the Bengals for a week.
