As John Lynch, the new GM of the San Francisco 49ers, and his new coach, Kyle Shanahan begin assembling their staffs, they have plucked two pieces off of the Giants.
Martin Mayhew will be leaving the Giants' front office to become a senior personnel executive in San Francisco, Lynch announced on Thursday. And Jeff Zgonina, who spent last year as the Giants' assistant defensive line coach, reportedly is leaving to become the defensive line coach on Shanahan's staff.
Mayhew, the former GM of the Detroit Lions, joined the Giants last February as the director of football operations/special projects. He was said to work closely with assistant GM Kevin Abrams as they managed the salary cap, as well as on special projects for Giants GM Jerry Reese.
Zgonina joined the Giants as an assistant to defensive line coach Patrick Graham last offseason after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant defensive line coach with the Houston Texans.
