With an extra roster spot due to the Giants waiving Bennie Fowler, the team has promoted WR Da'Mari Scott from the practice squad.
Scott's arrival could be due to the need for a punt returner given Jabrill Peppers and Golden Tate are both injured. Tate suffered a concussion in the loss to the Bears, while Peppers left the game early with a transverse process fracture.
There are other options already on the roster, though, depending on who head coach Pat Shurmur wants out for punts against the Packers on Sunday. Corey Ballentine and Darius Slayton have both been used for kick returns, and Ballentine especially has the prowess to return punts given his time at Wasburn University doing just that.
However, Peppers suffered his injury on his second-quarter punt return, so the Giants may be cautious with using players like Ballentine and Slayton in those situations.
Scott was with the Giants throughout the preseason, but was waived on Aug. 21. After clearing waivers, the Giants have had him on the practice squad ever since.
Going undrafted out of Fresno State last season, Scott spent three games with the Bills where he played a few special teams snaps.
