With the Giants down to zero healthy reliable tight ends, the team has re-signed Scott Simonson, reports SNY's Ralph Vacchiano.
Simonson, 27, signed a one-year contract extension with the Giants before the season, but was placed on IR on Aug. 31 due to an ankle injury before being released in September.
Starting tight end Evan Engram is dealing with a mid-foot sprain and missed this past Sunday's game against the Jets, and backup Rhett Ellison is in concussion protocol.
According to Vacchiano, while the Giants need healthy tight ends for practice purposes, the inking of Simonson could also be a sign that they are unsure what the availability of Engram and/or Ellison will be after the bye week.
After this week's bye, the Giants return to action against the Bears on Sunday, Nov. 24.
