Giants running back Saquon Barkley recorded 197 total yards from scrimmage for the second time this season in Sunday's 40-16 win over the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field, yet he put others in the spotlight after the game.
"I think I've done a good job of surrounding myself with the team outside of the facility," Barkley said, according to ESPN. "Obviously, inside the facility, the trainers and the doctors do a great job, but also taking care of my body outside. You go for 170, it's not by yourself. It starts with the team. The coaches made unbelievable calls and the offensive line dominated up front."
Barkley, who became the first Giants rookie to top 1,000 rushing yards, reeled off a 78-yard touchdown run and a 52-yard gain in the second quarter, recording a career-high 170 rushing yards and getting into triple digits for the fourth straight game.
"Any time I touch the ball," Barkley said, according to the AP's Stephen Whyno, "I think I'm gonna take it the distance."
Barkley's 78-yard touchdown run was his longest play of his rookie season. He took a handoff from Eli Manning, found a hole up the middle and then ran down the left sideline for the touchdown that turned a 10-lead into a three-possession game.
New York only scored seven points in the first quarter but blew the door open with a 27-point second quarter. His 52-yard cross-field run helped set up Manning's 6-yard touchdown pass to Bennie Fowler that made it 31-0.
And still, even after his second-most prolific game in the league, he found a way to credit wide receiver Sterling Shepard for a key block.
"Can we talk about the block Shepard made on that 52-yard run?" he said, according to NJ Advance Media's Matt Lombardo. "I have to be better there. I have to get into the end zone."
While he shared the spotlight, his teammates were sure to give him the credit he earned.
"It seemed like a defensive game at first, like it was going to be a low-scoring game," offensive lineman Chad Wheeler said, according to Newsday's Tom Rock. "And then out of nowhere I see Saquon 50 yards down the field a couple times. He just took off."
