Giants' Saquon Barkley wins Offensive Rookie of the Year

The running back edged out Baker Mayfield, 26.5 to 21.5 votes

It's official: Saquon Barkley is the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The Giants running back won the award Saturday night, beating out Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield 26.5 votes to 21.5 votes.

Colts offensive guard Quenton Nelson placed third with two votes.

The 21-year-old Barkley became the third rookie running back in NFL history to pass 2,000 scrimmage yards, recording 1,307 rushing yards, 721 receiving yards, 91 receptions and 15 total touchdowns.

Barkley, whom the Giants drafted second overall last April, beat out the No. 1 pick Mayfield, who threw for 3,725 yards, 27 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 14 games for Cleveland, which finished 7-8-1, its best record since 2007.

The Professional Football Writers of America named Mayfield its overall Rookie of the Year, while Barkley won its offensive Rookie of the Year award. 

Barkley was also named Pepsi's Rookie of the Year, a fan vote.
