Now Commenting On:

With the No. 43 pick in the NFL Draft, the New York Giants have selected center Weston Richburg from Colorado State.

Richburg is listed at 6 foot 3 inches and 298 pounds.

"Center is a very integral part of our new scheme," GM Jerry Reese said of his pick. "Ideal pick for us. He is terrific."

He is considered the top center in the draft and was expected to be the top player selected at his position (Raanan, April 15).

He played in 50 consecutive starts despite battling a few injuries -- including a broken snapping hand his sophomore year. He started at right tackle and left guard while dealing with the broken hand.

"I want to be the first center taken. I think I'm the best [center] here in the draft," Richburg said in April (Raanan, April 15). "Whatever team needs me at the earliest point possible, that's where I want to go, that's where I want to be. I want to go in and contribute right off the bat."

John Mara wanted offense and he's getting his way.

Another nice grab by Jerry Reese. Richburg fell a bit perhaps due to his small school status. but make no mistake this kid was highly sought after. It's doubtful he would have been there for the Giants in the next round.

Some are claiming Richburg may not be a Day One starter, but there's little doubt he's the Giants' center of the future. Looks like the Giants are going through a renaissance of the Suburbanites and the storied line that played here in the mid-late 00's.

Richburg has the chance along with Justin Pugh, Geoff Schwartz and Will Beatty to give the Giants one of the league's best offensive lines of the future.
