The Giants added some depth in the secondary and some help on special teams when they signed cornerback Valentino Blake on Monday.
The 5-9, 198-pounder -- formerly known as Antwon Blake before deciding to go by his middle name last year -- has spent time with the Jaguars, Steelers, and Titans during his five-year NFL career. He started 16 games for the Steelers in 2015, picking off two passes -- one of which he returned 70 yards for a touchdown -- forcing one fumble and recording one sack.
He is considered to be a solid special teams player, though he drew headlines last season for a terrible special teams play -- downing a punt at the 2 yard line when he was on the return team. He also took to Twitter after the game to defend his indefensible move.
The Giants' decision to sign Blake came shortly after Coty Sensabaugh, who essentially filled this role for the Giants last season, decided to sign a two-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Giants had some interest in bringing Sensabaugh back.
