The Giants signed 10 players to reserve/future contracts on Tuesday and added two more on Wednesday, ensuring all 12 will stay with the team at least until the offseason program begins in April.
Among the most notable names were cornerback Donte Deayon and receiver Darius Powe, who spent the entire season on the practice squad after impressive training camps as undrafted free agents last summer, and cornerback Michael Hunter, who played two games for the Giants during the regular season.
Players are eligible for reserve/future contracts if they were not on the active roster at the end of the season. The deal guarantees they'll be on the roster when it expands to 90 players when the official league year begins on March 9 and when the team begins its offseason workout program in April.
Here is the full list of players who signed reserve/future deals:
OT Michael Bowie - The 6-4, 332-pounder was drafted in the seventh round of the 2013 draft by the Seahawks and made nine starts that season, including in the Seahawks' divisional-round playoff win over New Orleans - the start of their Super Bowl run. That's the last time he played an NFL game, though, due to shoulder injuries that ruined his 2014 and 2015 seasons. The Cleveland Browns, who picked him up in 2014, placed him on the reserve/retired list back in August.
CB Donte Deayon - A favorite of fans and of defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, in part because of his 5-9, 158-pound size. He lost a lot of practice time, though, after he was placed on IR in October.
OL Adam Gettis - A former fifth-round pick of the Redskins (2012), Gettis (6-2, 305) has been a valued depth player for the Giants, who had him on their practice squad for parts of each of the last three seasons. He's appeared in four games over that span and even started at guard for the Giants in their win at Cleveland on Nov. 27.
G Jon Halapio - The 6-2, 320-pounder was a sixth-round pick of the Patriots in 2014. He's also spent time with the Broncos and Cardinals. He's been with the Giants since late-September.
RB Jacob Huesman - A quarterback at Tennessee-Chattanooga, he tried out for the Giants as a safety (among other positions) late in the season, but they signed the 6-1, 216-pounder as a running back/H-back instead.
CB Michael Hunter - The 6-foot, 186-pounder played a handful of snaps in the Giants' early season losses at Minnesota and Green Bay. He was signed to the practice squad after that.
DE Stansly Maponga - He appeared in two games for the Giants in 2015, but the 6-2, 265-pounder couldn't make the roster out of training camp this summer, so he spent the entire season on the practice squad instead.
DB Ryan Murphy - A former seventh-round pick of the Seahawks, the 6-1, 214-pound Murphy joined the Giants right before the regular season finale. He was on the practice squad with the Super Bowl champion Broncos last season and again for most of this season.
WR Kevin Norwood - Taken in the fourth round of the 2014 draft by Seattle, the 6-2, 200-pounder made nine catches in nine games (and two starts) as a rookie before he was traded to Carolina the next summer for a conditional, late-round draft pick in 2017. He played one game for them and didn't catch a pass in 2015. He joined the Giants in early-November after the Chargers released him from their practice squad.
WR Darius Powe - The 6-3, 220-pound undrafted rookie out of Cal was impressive in Giants training camp, but caught just one preseason pass and basically lost the final receiver spot on the roster to Roger Lewis.
QB Keith Wenning - A sixth-round pick by the Ravens in 2014, he's been on practice squads in Baltimore and Cincinnati. The 6-3, 225-pounder was added to the Bengals' active roster late in 2015, but has never been activated for an NFL game. He'll be competing to be the extra arm in training camp next summer.
DE Jordan Williams - After spending the first few weeks of the 2015 season on the Jets' practice squad, the 6-4, 276-pounder out of Tennessee landed with the Dolphins, where he was activated for one game. He signed with the Giants in early-December.
