The Giants will practice this afternoon at 1:30pm, but please be advised the practice will closed to the public.
Yesterday, the team had a shortened workout so head coach Tom Coughlin and others could travel to Canton for Bill Parcells' induction in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Coughlin was asked what he leaned most from his old boss:
"It was just the way that he went about his business and the organization went about their business; continuity, the winning, the high expectation level put by Bill on his players and his ability to gauge right away whether it was championship quality or not and his ability to communicate that in a fluent ‘New Jerseyan’ to the players."
Parcells, notorious for his brevity, gave a longer speech than expected. He mentioned one player in particular he's like to be placed near in the Hall:
"The only thing I would ask them to do is when they put my bust in the Hall tomorrow, I'd like to be somewhere near Lawrence Taylor, so I can keep an eye on that sucker."
On the injury front, OL Justin Pugh (concussion), CB Corey Webster (groin) and WR Hakeem Nicks (groin) all missed yesterday's drills. Coughlin said Pugh was "getting better"and that he did not expect Webster and Nicks to be out much longer.
OL David Diehl said yesterday that he's down "10 or 11 pounds" from last year and is determined to be the Giants' RT this season. He said they'd have to 'shoot him to get off off the field' and had a message for the detractors who year after year continue to count him out:
"I’ve heard that since I was five years old. I could care less. I’m a fifth-round draft pick who’s started as long as I have, been in the league for 11 years, you hear that stuff all the time. I love haters, keep bringing it. I don’t care."GEICO SportsNite takes a look at the battle for the Giants right tackle position at training camp and comments from David Diehl.
