In Super Bowl XLVI, punter Steve Weatherford set a record for the most punts inside 10 yard line, game, with 3.
The Giants played in the tightest SB ever: Smallest margin of victory, 1 point: New York Giants vs. Buffalo, (20-19), XXV.
In Super Bowl XXI, the Giants set the mark for the most points in the second half of play with 30. The trailed the Broncos, 10-9, at the half before rallying to win, 39-20.
No team has been shut out in the Super Bowl. Twelve teams, however took a goose egg into the tunnel at halftime. The Giants are one one of them. They were down 10-0, to Baltimore in SB XXXV.
Most lead changes in the fourth quarter, 3: New England vs. New York Giants, XLII. The final lead change came when QB Eli Manning hit WR Plaxico Burress with 0:35 in the fourth quarter to put the Giants up, 17-14, which would be the final score.
Fewest field goals attempted, game, 1: New England (0) vs. N.Y. Giants (1), XLII. The final score was 17-14. Giants PK Lawrence Tynes kcked a 32-yard FG in the first quarter.
Eight games have contained a safety. The Giants have been involved in three of them. In SB XXI, Giants DE George Martin sacked Denver QB John Elway in the end zone. In SB XXV, Giants QB Jeff Hostetler was sacked in the end zone by Buffalo DE Bruce Smith. In SB XLVI, the Giants were credited with two points when Patriots' QB Tom Brady was called for intentional grounding in the end zone.
Fewest net yards, rushing and passing, game, 396: New York Giants (152) vs. Baltimore Ravens (244), XXXV. No comment.
Fewest first downs, game, 24: Dallas (10) vs. Baltimore (14), V, N.Y. Giants (11) vs. Baltimore (13), XXXV. Again, no coment.
Most first downs, passing, game, 33: N.Y. Giants (18) vs. New England (15), XLVI. Strange, because with all this passing, the final score was only 21-17.
There have been only two turnover-free games in the fifty-year history of the Super Bowl: Buffalo vs. N.Y. Giants, XXV, and St. Louis Rams vs. Tennessee, XXXIV. The Giants also did not commit a turnover in their SB XXI win over Denver.
During Super Bowl XXXV, the Giants and Ravens set the record for most kickoff returns for touchdowns by both teams, game with one each. The Giants' Ron Dixon had a 97-yard return and Baltimore's Jermaine Lewis answered right back with an 84-yard romp of his own.
Super Bowl XXXV also had the most punts by both teams, 21, and a single punter - the Giants' Brad Maynard (11).
Nine games have not contained a single punt return. The Giants were involved in two of those games:
XXV vs Buffalo and XLVI vs New England.
The Giants hold the record for time of possession (40 minutes 33 seconds), accomplished in their SB XXV victory over the Buffalo Bills.
In that game, they set a record for the longest drive, (9 minutes 59 seconds), which still stands today.
