Giants WR Sterling Shepard has a concussion and is in concussion protocol, the team said Monday.
Giants head coach Pat Shurmur said earlier Monday that Shepard "may be" dealing with a concussion, adding that he was going through tests to determine if he had one or not.
It would be a tough blow to Shepard if he misses time. He already missed a bunch of time this preseason, as he dealt with a fractured thumb.
The Giants are already thin at receiver to begin with, so losing Shepard to go along with Golden Tate still sitting out with his suspension would force Cody Latimer and Bennie Fowler to be the No. 1 and 2 receivers on the field. Evan Engram, though, was targeted a bunch (14 times to be exact) and he had a solid day with 116 yards and a touchdown.
Shepard had a modest stat line in the loss to the Cowboys on Sunday, picking up six receptions for 42 yards. He had seven targets from Eli Manning as well.
Other than Shepard, RG Kevin Zeitler has a "shoulder thing," as Shurmur put it. Kareem Martin also has a knee sprain.
