"They think he’ll play," said head coach Tom Coughlin. "I think if he feels a little bit better out here on the grass, he’s fine."
Coughlin confirmed Beason's foot is 'sore' and agreed when it was suggested that playing on artificial turf could be compounding the issue.
"It certainly doesn’t help," the coach said.
P Steve Weatherford (ankle) is still trying to work his way back to normal, but he is still not certain whether he'll play on Sunday.
“He is very optimistic,” ST coordinator Tom Quinn told reporters Thursday. “He knows his body very well, so when it comes time for him to check it out and see, we’ll take a good look at it.”
Weatherford is being sensible in regards to pushing himself, putting the team first as always.
"I’m not going to try to be a hero, because most importantly, it’s having somebody out there that’s going to be able to change field position and help the New York Giants," said Weatherford as per the Giants. "I’m not here to prove a point on how tough I am. I want to help this team and if I’m not able to do that, well I think I’ll tell them that. I’m optimistic and hopeful that I’ll be out there.”
The emergency plan right now is to have PK Josh Brown handle the punting. Someone suggested to Coughlin call on Jeff Feagles, the club's retired punter who now serves as a radio analyst.
"Not a bad thought," said the coach.
Rookie LB Devon Kennard injured his hamstring on the first defensive snap of his career. He is almost certain to sit out Sunday's game vs the Cards.
"I wouldn’t even try to say how serious it is, but he has not practiced this week," Coughlin said. "Don’t expect it tomorrow."
Also not practicing again Thursday: OL James Brewer (back), DT Markus Kuhn (ankle) and WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring). No word on any progress with those three. OT Charles Brown (shoulder) was limited again.
DT Cullen Jenkins (hip) was a surprise add to the DNP list on Thursday. At press time, there was no word on when and how Jenkins sustained the injury or on his status.
