Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul said the potential return of WR Odell Beckham, Jr. on Monday night against the Lions could lift up the team, but that they can't rely on it to carry them.
Beckham is listed as questionable due to a high-ankle sprain.
"I feel like anybody with a special talent lifts up the whole team," Pierre-Paul said. "You can't look towards one guy to lift up a team. That's not what 'team' is. 'Team' is every guy coming together and playing together as one. We can't depend on one guy, otherwise you'll never find yourself in the same place. Odell is a special kind of player and hopefully he is able to go, but if he's not, the next guy has to step up. That's basically what it is."
Regarding the Lions, Pierre-Paul said the defense will be ready for Lions QB Matthew Stafford.
"He's a good quarterback," Pierre-Paul said. "He passes the ball very quick. He knows how to read blitzes. You have to respect that when it comes to a quarterback. He will get out on you if you're not patient and do what you have to do. Other than that, we're just going to go out there and play some great football. He's going to have to do what he has to do and we're going to do what we have to do as the defense to try to stop him."
Regardless of whether Beckham plays, Pierre-Paul said it's up to the Giants' offense to execute, adding that no one on the defensive side will get frustrated with them.
At the end of the day, they have to go out there and execute. They have to execute. We can't play for them as a defense. As defense we have to defend our field. Even if the offense does end up turning over or whatever, it's our job to give the ball back to them.
