Lions A Better Fit Right Now For Campbell Than Giants
The Giants begrudgingly released former U of Minnesota LB Lee Campbell this week to make space on their roster for Jerry Reese's new draft class. That's basically all it was - a numbers game. Campbell was one of 12 linebackers on the Giants' roster - way too many to take north this summer.
My personal assessment is that Jerry Reese covets his draft choices. Phillip Dillard and Jonathan Goff will be the finalists in the MLB derby. Both were drafted by Reese, while Campbell was an undrafted free-agent.
It's a shame that Campbell was not afforded the opportunity to strap on the pads and show the Giants fans what he could do. He is a physical player who is always around the ball.
He is also versatile and intelligent and will fit right into Jim Schwartz and Gunther Cunningham's defense in Detroit.
We wish him well. Should he win the MLB job there, he will be playing behind rookie DT Ndamakong Suh.
