He signed a two-year deal with San Francisco yesterday, who is building up their offense to match their already suffocating defense. Mario will join a receiving corp that is shaping up nicely: newly signed WR Randy Moss, former first round selection WR Michael Crabtree, TE Vernon Davis and WR Kyle Williams (yes, that Kyle Williams).
Who will play QB still remains a question. Alex Smith is visiting the Dolphins this week. Former Niner HOF QB Steve Young feels Peyton Manning is still a real possibility and that they have the inside track...
The reality is Smith will either be back or second-year prospect Colin Kaepernick will be given a shot. Many feel the San Fran option is an interesting one, but few see it happening.
The terms of Manningham's deal have not been disclosed, but according to CSNBayArea..."Manningham's contract is expected to be similar in breakdown to the three-year, $12 million contract Brandon Lloyd agreed to earlier Saturday ($4 million per year)."
The Giants will look to fill Manningham's spot on their offense from within. Domenik Hixon, Jerrel Jenrigan and Ramses Barden are the top candidates. The Giants have six selections in next month's NFL Draft and are certain to be awarded at least one compensatory pick, so they will most likely spend one of those on a WR.
