Coughlin said it was an old injury that was aggravated in yesterday's game and hopes its not a "season-ender". Ballard left the field right before halftime, but returned for the second half. He only had one catch for 15 yards on the day.
WR Devin Thomas, who was immobilized and carted off the field at halftime, has been cleared to practice. Coughlin said he has a "burner."
S Deon Grant had an explanation for why rookie CB Prince Amukamara wasn't included in the defensive plans in the second half of yesterday's game: He's not ready.
As per Jorge Castillo of the Star-Ledger, Grant - who was in NYC doing charity work at a food bank today - has been fostering the Giants' first-round pick, who got a late jump on his career due to the lockout and injury:
"I’ve been having conversations with him on a weekly basis. He’s just a tough kid so even though he knows in his mind he might not be ready, he’s not going to tell anybody...It’s natural. It’s bad because of the situation that he’s facing with the absence of mini camps and OTAs and just having the playbook early.
S Antrel Rolle was on WFAN today saying he was not calling out anyone in particular with his post game comments yesterday. Rolle said too many guys were sitting out of practice and missing games due to "injuries".
“At the end of the day, legitimate injuries are legitimate injuries," Rolle said on the FAN. "I'm not saying be Superman. But I’m just saying if you can give us a little bit more, give us a little bit more.”
LB Mathias Kiwanuka isn't buying all the garbage about the Jets owning New York.
"I know we're the better team," Kiwi said. "We just have to go out there and prove it."
When told that Jets' coach Rex Ryan had been chirping about the Jets being the better club because of recent playoff successes, Kiwanuka accepted the challenge...
"That's fine. The beautiful thing about it is that we're going to find out real soon. I'm not worried about anything anybody says, especially somebody that's not going to have pads on...."
When it comes to trash-talking, Eli Manning is not one to indulge. He steers clear of it...
"I am not going to pay attention to it, my focus is getting ready for their defense and getting ready for this game," said Manning. "I need to understand our game plan and what we need to do to try to win. You hear bits and pieces but I am not going to go get the paper and read every quote that Rex Ryan is saying and take it to heart. I am sure some people will respond to it but it is not going to be me..."
