Now Commenting On:

On Sunday, Eli Manning ended practice by connecting with his new TE, Brandon Myers.for 69-yard touchdown sending everyone to the showers after just one play. Tom Coughlin wasn't exactly pleased with the result, he wanted a more comprehensive effort from both sides.

Instead, he called everyone in. It was what it was. His TE got free and his QB hit him in stride up the seam. Hopefully it is a sign of things to come.

Myers, who arrived via free agency in March after a highly productive season in Oakland, is settling into the Giants' offense. Given the multiple weapons they already have in their arsenal, Myers could be poised for a record-breaking season. He's still learning the offense, however.

"It’s complex but it’s good once you start to get things down, get on the same page, like I said, learn all the calls, but it’s been good," Myers said today. "Like I said, we’re out here practicing every day and trying to get the little things down."

Eli has plenty of targets at his disposal, but he fares better with a "go-to guy." Myers was brought in to fill that role. Manning, like everyone else around here, are thus far impressed with what they've seen.

"He is athletic. He runs good routes. He catches the ball well, so hopefully he can be a big part of this offense and get us a bunch of catches," Manning said this morning.  "You can tell he’s passionate about football and doing the right things and having a great understanding. He works hard during practice and meetings asking questions. He’s doing everything right and I think he’s done a great job so far in getting open versus our defense, making good reads, and so it’s all coming around and obviously the more times you run plays and get different looks and have different reactions and doing the right thing, you coach it up and he’ll continue to get stronger and stronger, but he’s off to a great start and looking forward to a big year from him."

Myers has to shore up his blocking if he is going to have that big year. Otherwise, he may not get ample opportunities.

"Coach (Mike) Pope is the best in the business, or one of the best, so he’s been teaching me a few different things that maybe I haven’t had in the past," Myers said. "The key is to go out there every day and just kind of take what he tells you and the technique and the line and stuff like that to work on what he’s been teaching us."

So far, so good. Below is footage from today's practice of Myers catching a pass from Eli.
