The Giants are also concerned with the weather conditions in the San Francisco Bay Area. Heavy rain is in the forecast for the next five days. Candlestick Park is one of the league's oldest venues and contains natural grass. Inclement weather turns the surface into a quagmire, making it tougher for passing offenses to play at 100%. In case you haven't been paying attention, the Giants are a passing offense.
From Geico SportsNite:
Other things of note....DE Justin Tuck's left shoulder is the newest ailment the Giants' defensive captain is dealing with. He has had a rough year, on and off the field. He has endured the passing of several close family members and has been listed on the Giants' injury report for most of the year with multiple issues. He told reporters at one time this year, he was being treated for five things simultaneously.
“I’ve never played a year where I’ve had consistent injuries, hurt in this game, couple games later, I’m good to go,” Tuck said, as per Michael Eisen of Giants.com. “But it just seemed like this year when one thing got hurt, I would play a couple weeks with that, fight through that, by the time that was good, something else would go. So it’s been an uphill battle all year.”
Tuck has been dealing with this by putting the injuries out of his mind. Tom Coughlin commented: "He just decided that he is not going to allow any more distractions from the standpoint of the hurts. He has made that decision and he has stuck with it and I think it is a very smart move and he has been very productive since doing it."
LB Mark Herzlich (ankle) practiced for the first time since November. He said he felt good, but is coming along slowly and how he does the next two days will determine if he dresses Sunday.
On the Giants' practice/injury report, Eli, Tuck and Herzlich were all listed as limited along with DE Osi Umenyiora (ankle/knee) and CB Corey Webster (hamstring). RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) had his weekly day off and did not practice with the team.
For the 49ers, WR Ted Ginn (knee), S Dashon Goldson (ankle) and C Jonathan Goodwin (calf) did not practice. TE Delanie Walker (jaw) was limited.
