Now Commenting On:

It's only the first Thursday of the first week of the NFL's dark period and the news slowdown is sinking in.

Paul Schwartz of The Post is writing that even though signing free agent FB Vonta Leach makes oodles of sense for the Giants, they simply do not have the cap room to get it done:

“Vonta will visit if the Giants ask him to,’’ Leach’s agent, Ralph Vitolo, told The Post Wednesday. “No team has been excluded. The Giants are a great fit also, but we have to be creative.’’

Clearly, the Giants do not have the salary cap room to make Leach, 31, an offer he will jump at, meaning they remain a long shot to get the former Raven and Texan. The Dolphins have emerged as the favorite landing spot for Leach, as Vitolo earlier in the week told the Miami Herald he believes the Pro Bowl fullback will eventually sign with the Dolphins.. The Texans are also interested.

ESPN NewYork's Ohm Youngmisuk reports that former Giant great Tiki Barber thinks RB  David Wilson is as "dynamic a player at that position that the Giants have ever had.” But Tiki says both Wilson and Andre Brown still have to master all the aspects of the position, such as blocking. Barber admits it was tough for him...

Barber said he was “horrible” at pass protection as a rookie and he explains why blocking for a young running back can be so difficult.

“There’s two reasons why,” Barber said. “You don’t know how to do it and you are scared to do it. Unlike in college where you have smaller linebackers who are really designed to drop in the zone and cover wide receivers in the slot, in the NFL you get these linebackers who are 250 pounds and can do those things, as well.

“It is intimidating when you give up 50 pounds to a guy,” Barber continued. “And [you have to] know how to hit them and be brave enough to do it. So it took some practice.”
