The Giants are in chilly Detroit right now where the temps are scheduled to be near single digits by tonight. Good thing they are playing indoors at the Lions' Ford Field.
The game was moved to Detroit for several reasons. The first was to keep the Vikings in their element. They are an indoor team and they are more familiar with Ford than the Giants. Their fans can make the trip more easily, as well. How many Vikings fans will be on hand tonight is a huge question given the dismal season they've had....
Ticket holders will receive a refund for the game and their tickets will be honored at Ford Field should they make the trip. They will receive preferred seating. The rest of the seats will be given away - general admission - to anyone who dares to show.
The Giants did not want to play an outdoor game, which was suggested at the University of Minnesota, because they did not pack their winter gear. Secondly, the league was not keen on playing the game at a college facility. Another factor was snow removal and inclement weather. The NFL needed to get this game in and Detroit was the best option available.
Favre: Will He Play Tonight?
Does the Pope preach Catholicism on Easter Sunday? Of course Favre will play. If he makes the trip, which I believe he did, he will start. Then he will exit the game before the Giants get a chance to pummel him.
Favre loves to play rope-a-dope with the media. Someone suggested that Favre may be serious this time. That he can make bigger headlines by NOT playing, that's why he will sit.
But, he can make even bigger headlines by going out in a fusillade of Giants' hits and never playing another down football ever again - sort of like Butch and Sundance....go out in a blaze of glory.
Brett Favre is all about Brett Favre. Let no one kid you. The move that will draw the most attention will be the one he makes....
From our colleague Patty Traina at Inside Football....
The NYG -Eagles game is HUGE if both teams end up in a tie at end of season... A NYG win ties the head-to-head at 1-1 (first tie breaker).
It also ties division play at 3-2. (NY has Redskins left; Philly has Dallas at home). The next tiebreaker, if necessary, would be common opponents. If Giants beat Minny, they would go 7-3 while Philly is currently 6-4.
Both teams have two common opponent games remaining (NY has GBY & WAS; Eagles have MIN & DAL). Giants need to beat Minny first to stay on Philly's heels.
