Well, here goes nothing. The Giants are about to plunge deep into this confusing, mind-boggling transition on Sunday and it won't be pretty. Just picture a little kid being thrown into a pool without his floaties. That's what I'm envisioning when the Giants touch the field in Oakland...helpless and without a clue how to swim out alive.
But, I guess there is still a few reasons to be positive and here they are:
- Geno Smith performs: What if Geno makes something out of nothing? I mean, Eli hasn't been able to do anything with this horrendous offense, but if Geno can somehow tack on points, then maybe the Giants don't look so bad after all. As McAdoo has stated, Smith has been the backup all season, and it's only fair to give him a shot. Smith's ability to create plays when the pocket collapses (and it will collapse a lot) could show some type of light for the future. Who knows?
- Defensive Opportunity: Let's turn away from the offense for a second here, and realize that the Giants' defense is also an area of concern for the future. This unit has certainly underperformed this season. However, they head into Oakland with test against an offense without their top two receivers. Obviously, Michael Crabtree is suspended for his fight last week against the Broncos, and Amari Cooper is still banged up with a concussion, and unlikely to play. This could be an opportunity for the Giants' defense, who has performed admirably in the past two weeks, to shock the Raider faithful in the Black Hole nonetheless.
- One week closer to Draft Day: And for those Giants fans that aren't optimistic, at least it is one week closer to Draft Day. If Smith does what everyone expects and leads the Giants to another loss, it is one more loss that the Giants put on their record as they look to secure a Top 3 pick in next year's draft.
