Even Eli Manning wants Davis Webb to finally make his regular-season debut. But the Giants continue to be too cautious with the potential future franchise quarterback.
But what is the reason to keep Webb off the field? Spagnuolo is saying it wouldn't do Webb any good to play in the final three games because of how depleted the offense is. But how else are you going to see what this kid can really give you?
I get the Giants have the most dropped passes out of anyone in the league. And I also understand that Webb could be flattened like a pancake because of the offensive line woes. But Manning makes a great point when he basically says its a whole lot more than just completing passes.
It's about decision making -- calling audibles, checks, and seeing the NFL defenses in your face instead of on the field for the first time. Webb may not succeed because of the talent around him, but there is loads to gain from throwing him out there to see what he's got. There's also the fact that if the Giants continue to lose (which they are expected to do), a No. 2 draft pick in 2018 drops in their laps. There are expected to draft a quarterback, but looking at Webb is essential to see if he has the tools necessary before the Giants take their pick of the lot.
Just get him out there. Fans have been wondering why the Giants took this kid in the third round, and it's time to see what he has to work with. You know it's time when your own starter is calling for his reps.
