It was yet another heartbreaker at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, and it just added to the dismal season the Giants are having this year. The cherry on top were all the Eagles fans chanting in masses and waving around team flags all over the building.
As depressing as that may be, there is a huge positive that came out of this game despite the final result: The Giants still have some fight left in them. At this point in the season, everyone wants to see this team lose. But they are coming in each week, and not making it easy for their opponents.
A prime example was this game where the NFC East-winning Eagles came to town, and the Giants shocked them with a 23-21 score at halftime. The offense was the biggest surprise as Eli Manning looked to be in another zone, one that fans have seen in the past. He finished the day completing 37 of his 57 attempts for 434 yards, three TDs, and one INT. Now, that is an Eli statline we're all used to seeing.
But what this game showed me that's more important than the stat sheet is the fact that this Giants team -- through all the despair this season -- is trying all they can do to win with the cards they're currently being dealt. And because of that, we see Eli Manning developing more chemistry with players like Sterling Shepard and Evan Engram, who are going to be part of this team for years to come. We see young players continue to fight and try to make a case for themselves for the 53-man roster next season.
The season is over, and the NFL Draft is basically the only positive thing most fans are looking at right now. But, with just two weeks of the season left, the Giants are still giving us all they got left in the tank, and it shows with games like this one on Sunday. That deserves a round of applause.
