Can we just all take a step back and appreciate how much of a gem Landon Collins is? To say the lone Giants player to represent New York this year at the Pro Bowl has been outstanding since entering the league would be an understatement.
Former GM Jerry Reese made an excellent decision to trade up in the second round and take Collins out of Alabama, and it wasn't even a risk. Experts knew Collins had the ability to help a defense immediately. But what he has done with the Giants in three years is absolutely insane.
Collins will finish the year leading the Giants in tackles for the third straight season. Just read that again. If you're thinking 'No way, how could that be possible?," just think about how many times you hear his name called during games. He is either making a solo tackle, or helping a group bring someone down.
And his response to being named a starter is the reason why he will be daunting a "C" on his jersey in the near future. Collins said because he didn't have the same success he had last year as an individual and with his team, the honor didn't feel right.
That's the type of player Collins is: Humble and modest off the field, but hungry and determined on it. You have to love what No. 21 brings to this team.
