Mara finally answered the wishes of everyone in Big Blue Nation on Monday, and even added a cherry on top by firing not only head coach Ben McAdoo, but GM Jerry Reese as well.
The overhaul is complete. So, now, where do we go from here?
Well, the next step fans want to see is interim head coach Steve Spagnuolo put Eli Manning back under center instead of Geno Smith on Sunday against the Cowboys. Eli has already expressed to Spags that he wants to return to his starting role, and the fans want that too.
That would put Earth back on its axis and everything will return to normal, right? Wrong.
The truth is, no matter how many times Mara says he's sorry about the whole Manning benching situation, it still happened. And even worse, is the fact that Mara told the media yesterdy that he could've had the power to change it all, but he didn't. Regret caused Mara to make the move to fire McAdoo and Reese, hoping that their leaving the building will set things straight.
But how much damage has it already done to Manning. Not only is he experiencing an awful season, but he was just benched unceremoniously like he didn't play for 14 straight years and won two Super Bowls for the franchise. It may have changed his mind on what he wants to do next season despite the fact that he may return to his starting role.
Mara did a much-needed good in firing McAdoo and Reese. But the next step of the rebuild -- keeping Eli Manning in New York -- may be harder than it looks.
