Of course, the Giants good news wouldn't last long enough. A very lengthy injury report surfaced after practice Monday, and it included many key players, but none more imporant than Justin Pugh and D.J. Fluker.
Yes, I know players like B.J. Goodson and Olivier Vernon were on the list. But these two offensive linemen are critical to any sort of Giants success down the road. Pugh already missed the game against the Chiefs, and on the other hand, Fluker had an exceptional game on Sunday. The offensive line, as a whole Sunday, was great on the run and in protection.
Now, they face another loss and could be in for the worst.
Jon Halapio or John Greco will likely be called on to fill in for Fluker, but what kind of impact are they going to make. Eli Manning finally had a pocket to work with. I mean, he actually dropped back and stood there for about five seconds on one play. When was the last time we saw that?
Injured defensive players like Vernon and Goodson are big losses, too. But for an already bad offensive line to lose yet another starter after a rare, decent performance is going to hurt. And I hope it doesn't wind up hurting the entire Giants offense on Thursday.
