Thursday night games have always been debatable amongst players, coaches, and fans alike. However, this year, the topic of getting rid of them due to risk of players sustaining injuries has increased. Why? Well, because players have really been getting hurt.
We have heard for years now that Thursday night games just don't work for players trying to recover from a tough battle on Sunday. But, it is still in place each year as many fans like the fact they don't have to always wait until Sunday to see a game. What about the players though? Just a couple weeks ago, the Seahawks were complaining about injuries to their key players, and many have voiced their frustrations around the league this year.
The Giants now find themselves with a game tomorrow night, and though Thanksgiving games are tradition, it is still short rest. It also doesn't help that they won't be full strength after losing key players like D.J. Fluker and Justin Pugh, and now Sterling Shepard won't have time to figure out why he's getting migraines in time.
In my opinion, if you want to insure the players' safety over TV ratings, Thursday night games should be banned. There is a collective of players saying it doesn't aid in their recovery, and it makes them susceptible to injury. With the Giants consistently plagued by injury to begin with, I'm not lying when I say my stomach will be in a knot -- not just because of the turkey -- but because I'll be praying more players don't need to be attended to on the sidelines.
