You could not have imagined yesterday afternoon that the Giants would walk away from the draft table last night with one of the two top CB prospects.
The latter inexplicably occurred. Several teams moved down rather than reach for a player. Others simply reached. Atlanta gave up a fortune to trade spots with Cleveland to land WR Julio Jones.
Several teams took QBs many thought would last several rounds. Minnesota selected Florida State's Christian Ponder, who they probably could've gotten in Round Two. The Titans took Washington's Jake Locker over Arkansas' Ryan Mallett - who was not even selected last night.
The Cowboys selected USC OT Tyron Smith at No 9. Smith is talented, but far from a finished product. San Francisco took DE Aldon Smith of Missouri at No 7. Many in the gallery did not seem to know who he was....
Miami grabbed the Giants' suspected first round target - Florida C Mike Pouncey - at No. 15. A great pick for them. New England favored Colorado OT Nate Solder over more talented players.
San Diego then took another suspected Giants' target - Illinois DT Corey Liuget - at # 18, leaving Amukamara exposed for the taking by the Giants.
