I had a feeling cooler heads would prevail as the NFL Draft got closer. For months now, quarterbacks have been mocked by experts to be among the top ten players taken on May 8th.

Now that team executives, scouts, coaches and pundits have witnessed most of the prospects via the Combine, pro days and other workouts, the collective grades of QBs Johnny Manziel, Blake Bortles and Teddy Bridgewater have been dropping across the board.

"As we get closer to the draft, we’re hearing more talk that the stock of the top quarterbacks (Teddy Bridgewater, Johnny Manziel and Blake Bortles) is dropping. And Peter King of now reports that the four teams in the Top 5 with quarterback needs — Oakland, Houston, Cleveland and Jacksonville — are all strongly considering passing on quarterbacks in the first round and drafting one in the second or third round instead."
That's good news for the teams atop the draft order, as they won't get punk'd by fool's gold. But for teams like the Giants, it's the worst-case scenario. At No. 12, the Giants were hoping for some of the top non-QBs to be waiting there for them: Taylor Lewan, Mike Evans, Eric Ebron and Aaron Donald. Now, with teams passing on QBs, those players could be gone by the time the Giants pick.

It's not shocking to me, in fact, I couldn't for the life of me figure out why those QBs were rated so highly. Although they are the highest-rated QBs, they are far from the highest-rated players in this draft. In my opinion, only Manziel is worthy of early first round consideration because of his jersey-selling, seat-filling ability as well as his national appeal.

The Giants could find themselves in an unlikely place in the first and second rounds in this draft. It is very possible they stick to their "best player available" and draft a player at a non-need position. Then again, they might find themselves in position to grab a difference-maker on their roster. We'll find out in 24 days.
