According to Jordan Raanan of NJ.com, New York Giants defensive end Robert Ayers is projected to receive a 3-year, $18 million contract, with $9 million guaranteed on the free-agent market.
Raanan also puts the chances of Ayers returning to the Giants at 65%.
Ayers is an above average player, but let's not forget that he had seven of his 9.5 sacks after Jason Pierre-Paul returned to the lineup. Is he a player worth signing? Yes, but just because you have a $60 million warchest doesn't mean you should squander it. The Giants will likely let JPP hit the free agent market and have high hopes for Owa Odighizuwa and Kerry Wynn. They still need a head honcho pass rusher. Ayers isn't it and I'm thinking the Giants make a lower offer here.
