Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. understands his responsiblity" to be a good role model, according to NY Post's Paul Schwartz.
Beckham, who hosted his Citi Odell Beckham Jr. Football ProCamp at Kean University in Union, N.J. Saturday, knows that many look up to him, and he wants to set a good example.
"It's a responsibility," Beckham said. "I say it all the time, I remember when I was young and I looked up to somebody, little do we know the things that we do have a huge impact on 'em. So always be mindful of what you're doing, try to be the best person you can be and in turn hopefully that will be a good role model for somebody else."
The 24-year-old wideout also spoke on his excitement for this upcoming season as he feels more prepared and determined than ever.
"Mentally, physically, spiritually, everything, I don't think I've ever been as ready as I am now," Beckham said.
His excitement stems around the potential of the Giants this season as they, once again, revamped their roster this offseason. He is confident something special is brewing in the Giants locker room.
"I'm really looking forward to seeing what teams are going to do this year, I think it's gonna be a lot of trouble," Beckham said. "Especially young Sheps, I know he's ready. I know the other receivers in that room, TK [Tavarres King], are ready and our defense is going to be very solid as well. So...I'm looking forward to this year."
Veteran WR Brandon Marshall, who the Giants signed this offseason, is someone Beckham is looking to learn from on and off the field.
"We kind of have a similar struggle and in a sense of how we grew up and how our mentalities are," Beckham said. "We're really a lot [more] similar than what people may think and it's just great to have him there. A guy who's been to different teams, knows the ins and outs of how the NFL business works, somebody who can definitely school me to the game. And he's a tremendous talent as well."
Beckham will be entering his fourth season in the NFL this year, and though he enjoys his rapid rise to fame and celebrity status, he still can't grasp the fact that he has impacted so many. He caught a glimpse of it Saturday as he looked upon a sea of his signature dyed blonde hair on the kids in attendance.
"I don't want to say I didn't expect to be where I'm at today, but I didn't expect kids to be dyeing their hair blonde," Beckham said. I have all kind of parents sayin, 'My kid dyed his hair blonde because of you.' I didn't mean for all that stuff to happen, but again, it goes back to being a responsibility. It's a good thing. I just never really expected to be where I'm at, exactly, today."
