Within a few hours of Odell Beckham Jr. replying to a fan on Twitter with just one character, his name began to populate an innumerable amount of headlines.
A fan tweeted to Beckham, pleading the star not to take a snap in the preseason. Beckham succinctly responded with just "0". Soon, headlines such as "Giants star Odell Beckham Jr. says he won't play in preseason" and "Odell Beckham Jr. vows he'll play '0' snaps this preseason" were formed.
Beckham, clearly unhappy, gave the media fodder for more articles by ostensibly responding. He tweeted: "People take things a little too serious sometimes... quick to write a story, but hey anything for a couple of likes in this world. Lol it's so sad that's the world we live in. Wonder if we'll ever change!?"That was followed by a more direct quip: "Grow up. Please. I'm tryna do the same."
The 25-year-old Beckham was limited to four games in 2017 after fracturing his ankle, but he told NJ.com that he is "doing really good" so far in his rehab.
Through four seasons with the Giants, Beckham has tallied 313 receptions for 4,424 yards and 38 touchdowns.
Beckham is currently awaiting a contract extension from the Giants, who picked up Beckham's fifth-year option last year. Owner John Mara recently said the team would address the contract situation at the appropriate time, but "that is not necessarily right now."
