The New York Giants have started free agency off with a bang. They have began shedding cap, which has meant the release of many fan favorites such as Shaun O'Hara and Rich Seubert. But it is not yet time to panic. The Giants can still bring back players that have been released at a more affordable salary.
In the case of O'Hara and Seubert they are both returning from injuries they suffered last season. The team may not yet be ready to completely redo the offensive line and could see this as the perfect time to reduce their salaries. It would allow the team to keep both players at a cap friendly price while grooming younger players to replace them next season.
Other cuts are still on the horizon and it wouldn't be surprising to see Shawn Andrews, Brandon Jacobs, Aaron Ross, and Chris Canty suffer the same fate. Though these players may be released soon there is always the possibly of them still being a Giant again in a week's time.
This manipulating of the cap happens every season, it just seems overwhelming now because of this post-lockout hastened free agency period. The Giants' roster may not look much different than last year's when everything is said and done.
