Russell Wilson is one day away from the deadline he set to work out a new contract with the Seahawks. There are rumblings that Seattle is unsure whether Wilson wants to stay, but does it go even further than that?

"Russ wants New York. But you ain't heard that from T.. ," Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu tweeted late Saturday night

Citing a league source, ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio wrote Sunday that the Seahawks think Wilson "would like to play elsewhere, even if he hasn't and wouldn't ever say it. They also believe that this unspoken dynamic will cause Wilson to drive a harder bargain with them than he would with another team."

Florio adds that the Seahawks might not immediately look to trade Wilson if a long-term deal isn't reached, with them possibly keeping him for the 2019 season and exploring a trade before the 2020 season -- when Wilson's salary under the franchise tag would shoot up significantly.

The 30-year-old Wilson is owed $17 million this season in what is the final year of his deal.

If Wilson and the Seahawks don't agree on an extension before the deadline and Seattle makes him available, the Giants -- with the No. 6 and No. 17 picks in the first round of the NFL Draft and looking at 38-year-old Eli Manning as their starter -- might be the best fit.

Wilson said in March that he was "shocked" by the Odell Beckham Jr. trade and addressed the rumors about his future in Seattle.

"The reality is a lot of guys move, but for me, I love Seattle," Wilson said. "I won a Super Bowl there, been to two, won a lot of playoff games. I love being there. As far as trades or being moved, you can never be surprised. I have a clear mindset of how much I love Seattle."

While he was shocked by the Beckham trade and wouldn't rule out leaving Seattle, Wilson also spoke highly of new Giants WR Golden Tate.

"He can make plays, that's for sure," Wilson said of Tate. "He'll make people miss. He definitely has talent."

Maybe Tate will be making those plays this season or next after reeling in passes from Wilson. Tick tock.
