RB Orleans Darkwa has agreed to a one-year deal with the Giants, reports Kimberly A. Martin of Newsday.
The Giants didn't initially tender a contract to the 25-year-old Darkwa, who was a restricted free agent. He had been set to become an unrestricted free agent today at 4 p.m.
There had been some discussions about Darkwa returning at a lesser price, SNY's Ralph Vacchiano reported last week, but a source recently indicated he was planning to test the free agent market first.
A former undrafted free agent out of Tulane, the Giants signed Darkwa off the Dolphins' practice squad in 2014.
Darkwa was battling a fractured leg last season. It never fully healed and eventually ended his season in late-November. He underwent surgery in December and is expected to be ready to be at least a limited participant in spring drills.
