Giants' DE Osi Umenyiora has played a decade in this league and is largely considered one of the game's most underrated players. So, when a rookie who has never played a down in the NFL such as the Redskins' Robert Griffin III (RG III) comes in pre-packaged with a nickname et al, Osi gets a bit ornery.
From Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Washington....
“Who is this RG3 guy you guys keep talking about?’’ Umenyiora said according to the New York Post. “You talking about Bob Griffin?”
“You guys are giving him a cool nickname already and everything,” Umenyiora reportedly added. “When he does anything in the NFL we’re gonna call him RG3. Right now, he’s Bob Griffin.’’
Asked later Wednesday to respond to Umenyiora’s jab, Griffin smiled and offered a respectful retort.
“That’s Osi for you,” Griffin said at Redskins Park. “One of my coaches at Baylor called me Bob. Nobody really calls me Bob, but it that’s what he wants to call me, that’s fine. He doesn’t have to call me RG3 at all.”
