All offseason, Dave Gettleman has been preaching about ressurecting the Giants' dormant run game.

Gettleman drafed Saquon Barkley instead of a quraterback with the No. 2 overall pick; He paid Nate Solder handsomely to be the team's new left tackle; He's used the word "hogmolly" more than any other executive in the league, for sure.

While Gettleman's quest to solve the run game surely won't be judged during a preseason game without Barkley, the early signs since the rookie's first run for the team has not been good. In their 22-16 win against the Jets on Friday night, the team had a total of 26 carries for 87 yards.

"I was pleased with the way we threw the ball," Pat Shurmur said, via Pat Leonard of NY Daily News. "(I was) not pleased with the way we ran the ball, certainly."

Barkley's absence was a big one, but Shurmur believes the run game is a full team-effort.

"It's a team thing when you run the ball well, and when you don't run it well it's also a team thing," Shurmur said. "So we've just got to go back and look at it. And I think it's important that we're running the right paths and blocking the right guys."

The Giants will look to get on track in their preseason finale on Thursday against the Patriots.
