“I give Eli Manning credit, of course, he’s great, but Victor Cruz – he’s making Eli a bigger star and there’s no doubt about it,” Simms said. “He’s everything. He really truly is everything. He’s quick. He’s fast. He’s strong. He has tremendous hands and a great feel of how to play the game.Cruz, the pre-season standout turned salsa-dancing star, broke out last season in his first shot as a starter. Cruz totaled 82 catches for 1,500 yards and 9 TD.
“There’s great talent at that position in the league, but I’m not sure anybody’s better.”
This year, Cruz already has 50 catches for 627 yards and 7 TD. He ranks third in the league in receptions, fourth in yardage and is tied for lead in touchdown receptions.
Many believed Cruz's impressive '11 campaign would surely lead to a drop-off in production this season. It was thought Hakeem Nicks' absence from the lineup would hurt, too.
Still, Cruz is en route to an even better season this time around.
“He runs basic routes and scores touchdowns,” Simms added. “He takes ordinary plays and does the dance. Not many guys can do that in the NFL.”Follow Sam on Twitter @SamSpiegs
