Now Commenting On:

Some player news and commentary coming out of Jerry Reese's media sessions yesterday at the NFL Combine...

Rotoworld: Giants GM Jerry Reese said at the Combine that Jerrel Jernigan finally started to live up to his draft status down the stretch of 2013.Jernigan posted a 19-237-2 line over the final three games of 2013 and should see an expanded offensive role as the Giants' third receiver in 2014, especially with new OC Ben McAdoo likely to install several three wide receiver sets. He is a sleeper in redraft leagues and worth owning in all dynasty formats.

Fennelly: I have an issue with the sudden love for Jernigan. He was playing in place of slot receiver Victor Cruz in those games. If the Giants did anything well on offense last season, it was getting the ball to the slot receiver. Jernigan has to prove he can play on the outside, because Cruz is best when he lines up on the inside. If JJ can do that, I'll start buying into this mindset.

Rotoworld: Giants GM Jerry Reese said at the Combine he expects Rueben Randle to make a "significant jump" next season. With the Giants moving on from free agent Hakeem Nicks, Randle is going to be the primary outside receiver in Ben McAdoo's West Coast offense. He had 41 catches, 611 yards, and six touchdowns despite only making three starts last year. Randle should see heavy targets as the No. 2 option behind Victor Cruz and is a major breakout candidate for 2014.

Fennelly: Randle has the ability and the tools to succeed as an NFL wideout. Last year, when he and Eli were on the same page, he made things look simple. When they were not, he looked like a green rookie. I blame the system and the dysfunction on offense for his transgressions in 2013. Nothing they did as a whole was fluid. This year should be different. Will Randle have a breakout season? I think he will.

Rotoworld: Giants GM Jerry Reese confirmed free agent DE Justin Tuck will be allowed to test the free agent market."Justin is going to go to the market and see what's out there for him," Reese said. "Free agency means free agency. It means you go out and get as much as you can." Tuck recorded 11 sacks in 2013, but 9.5 of those sacks game in the final six games of the season. Tuck only recorded 10.5 sacks in the prior 37 games. He is our No. 8 free agent defensive end.

Fennelly: Reading between the lines, it looks as if Reese is hoping another team takes Tuck off his hands. The reality, though, is not many teams will be stepping forward to do so. I believe the market will be soft for Tuck. He had too long a dry spell before turning things around last season.  I can see Tuck fielding offers and then looking back to see if Reese will counter.
