The Giants had teams on edge last year with defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's complex blitz scheme. Teams may adjust by getting their quarterbacks out of the pocket quicker, which many of the Giants players and coaches welcome. Ralph Vacchiano in the Daily News quotes Justin Tuck who commented on the strategy the Lions and possibly other teams may employ.
"I hope they do that, quarterbacks are more vulnerable when they get outside. We're all-around D-linemen. Obviously with the success we had last year, with the pass rush of this football team, that's something we're going to have to combat. A lot of teams are going to do it."Osi Umenyiora believes Spagnuolo will have a plan to counter whatever teams come up with.
"I think a lot of that rests on the defensive coordinator," said Umenyiora. "He has to find a way to put us in position to make the plays we're supposed to make. If teams are doing one thing, you have to find a way to counter. That's what he's done for us."
