Accountability is the corner stone to any job and to any career. For the 2013 New York Giants there does not seem to be any accountability on any level, so when Antrel Rolle stands up and describes his offense as having no pulse and some players played with no heart…he should be applauded.
He is describing a frustrating, underperforming season, not one game, nor one player and it is becoming very clear that there is a problem in Giant land.
The offensive, under a confident almost smug Kevin Gilbride has come to a screeching halt. The one dimensional, predictable offensive looks pathetic and changes are needed.
Antrel Rolle is one of the most unselfish players on the roster and while he doesn’t mind expressing his opinions out loud he back up his talk with great play. No. 26 is tied for the NFL lead with 6 interceptions and is second on the team in tackles. He should be a starter in the Pro Bowl, yet after all this internal, now external drama,
Tom Coughlin knows his defensive leader will take care of the issue.
“I’m sure he’ll (Rolle) go to the people that he needs to and discuss it or talk it out and it won’t be an issue. But you have to understand in our game, to generalize, you can’t do it. I can’t do it because you’re always going to find someone that it doesn’t apply to and that’s the nature of it.”
Rolle has come a long way as a player and a leader. He is having his finest season while wearing blue and white and if his words light a fire under the anemic offense…then so be it.
Rolle went on to say, “We’re a team. At the end of the day, we’re a team, win, lose or draw. We do that all as a team. There is no group that’s greater than the other. Obviously right now our offense isn’t where they want to be and neither is our defense. There have been several times, as long as I’ve been a Giant, where the offense has had to pick up the defense and save our butts plenty of times.”
Rolle's statement, while extremely accurate did not sit well with Tight End Brandon Myers and after an emotional Twitter response, he realized he was wrong and explained his response to Rolle.
“I think that’s just him being emotional. He’s a very emotional player; he plays with his emotion on his sleeve. Offense, we didn’t play well. It’s the truth. We just have to come together and figure out what’s going on and how we can fix it and move on from there.”
Since coming to the Giants Brandon Myers has been a very disappointing signing. Eli and his offensive have had 4 Tight Ends in 4 years so there no consistency. Manning has needed a big, strong Tight End that can block, yet get up the middle of the field and score. Myers is not that type of a player.
“I let my emotions get the best of me. The thing that we have to do the next two weeks is just stick together as a team and play together and try to get two wins, finish off the season. That’s about it. It was a miscommunication. Like they tell us all the time, think before what you say and what you put out there. It was just a bad part on me and I’m just going to move on. We’ve moved on, it’s not a big deal.”
Regardless of who said what, this team “mailed it in” back to back weeks and it’s embarrassing. It’s a bad product the Giants are putting out on the field and changes are needed and expected.
