The Giants have decided to let S Landon Collins walk into free agency, as SNY's Ralph Vacchiano confirmed reports that the team won't franchise tag the Pro Bowler.
By letting Collins go, the Giants are losing not only one of their best defensive players on the roster, but also a leader in the locker. And Collins' now-former teammates showed him some love.
Rookie RB Saquon Barkley only spent one season with Collins, but said he "learned a lot" from No. 21...
Heck of a player and leader! Learned a lot from you this year 21! All luv ✊ https://t.co/ZgUyOf36le- Saquon Barkley (@saquon) March 5, 2019
Hall of Famer and Giants Ring of Honor member Michael Strahan tweeted out his disappointment that Collins wasn't franchise tagged.
I'm surprised and disappointed that the Giants didn't franchise @TheHumble_21. Great player and leader who will be missed! Thanks for making this OG proud!- Michael Strahan (@michaelstrahan) March 5, 2019
Former Giants TE Carl Banks also gave his two cents on Collins, saying he believes he will see a hefty paycheck in free agency...
Hard to say what the thinking is here. I hope LC continues a great career and makes a lot- Carl Banks (@CarlBanksGIII) March 5, 2019
