Giants rookie RB Saquon Barkley was one receiving yard away from making franchise history.
Barkley was the only light to come out of an ugly loss to the Eagles on Thursday Night Football, as he lit up MetLife Stadium both on the ground and through the air. He rushed for 130 yards on 13 carries that included this 50-yard touchdown run...
And his jaw-dropping 55-yard screen play led to a receiving day of nine catches for 99 yards.
Barkley single-handedly led the Giants' offense tonight, and if he had just one more yard receiving, he would have been the first Giants player to reach 100 yards or more in both rushing and receiving.
Either way, this performance -- Barkley's best so far in his early career -- may quiet some of the haters that wanted to see a quarterback taken with the Giants' No. 2 overall pick back in April. Every yard was hard fought, and showcased the skills everyone has raved about since his first NFL touch.
The moral of the story: Give Barkley the ball. Good things usually happen.
