Each week, I will pick three games against the spread and then of course the Giants game from that week.
Here are this week’s picks. I’ll be using the point spreads from Yahoo! Sports. Feel free to include your picks for these or any other of the week’s games in the comments section. Good luck!
2012 Overall Record (including playoffs): 25-28
New England Patriots (-11) at Buffalo Bills
Even on their home turf, the Buffalo Bills will be starting rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel. That’s a recipe for disaster against the Patriots. Tom Brady should have a field day this week against a Bills’ team that is in store for a long season. A two-touchdown victory seems very realistic.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3.5) at New York Jets
Geno Smith is likely to have plenty of growing pains. And how ironic that Darrelle Revis will be taking on his former team in the opening week? Even if the Jets’ defense can keep the team in the game, Gang Green has no offensive attack.
Minnesota Vikings (+5) at Detroit Lions
The reigning NFL M.V.P. Adrian Peterson is poised for another huge season, and what better way to get him going than in a dome against a divisional rival? The Vikings could be a sleeper team this season, especially if Peterson can get off to a fast start. I’m expecting a tight game in this one, and I would not be surprised if it came down to field goal. But either way in that case, the Vikings cover.
New York Giants (+3) at Dallas Cowboys
Even though the Giants are 4-0 in AT&T Stadium in Dallas, the Cowboys are still favored, and rightfully so in this case. It’s the first game of the season, and the home team always has the edge. But I’m looking for the Giants’ offense to really get off to a good start. We know the defense may have its struggles, but the offense can keep the team in the game. The Cowboys are said to have a new defensive scheme that will limit big plays, but if that’s the case, then Eli Manning can just methodically drive the team downfield. Once in the red zone though, this team can’t settle for field goals. It’s opening week! Of course, I’m picking the Giants!
