Here are this week’s picks. I’ll be using the point spreads from Yahoo! Sports. Feel free to include your picks for these or any other of the week’s games in the comments section. Good luck!
Week 5 Record: 0-4
Overall Record: 6-14
Pittsburgh Steelers (+3) at New York Jets
All the hype around the Jets right now is hysterical. They won a big game Monday night, which Jets’ fans think was the Super Bowl. There is still plenty of season left for Gang Green, and they’ll run into a Steelers’ team searching for its first win. But unlike the Giants, the Steelers have pretty much been in every game this season. Coming off a long rest from their game in London, the Steelers are hungry for a win, and I think they’ll get it on the road at MetLife.
Cincinnati Bengals (-9) at Buffalo Bills
The Bills have actually been much more competitive than anyone expected this season, but E.J. Manuel will be sidelined Sunday, meaning Thad Lewis will get the start at quarterback. Who? The Bengals’ defense will gobble this guy up, and Cincinnati will get back on track after a mediocre start, based on their expectations.
Jacksonville Jaguars (+27) at Denver Broncos
I lost once already with the Jaguars on a huge spread this season, and I’m not going to let that happen again…at least this week. We know the Broncos are going to score at least 40-plus points. It’s just going to be a matter of how many they give up. If they give up 13 or less, that should be fine to cover the spread. But my main worry is that the Jaguars will score a meaningless touchdown late that has no impact on the outcome of the game but could in turn affect the spread. But even so, a Denver 41-10 home win would not shock anyone. Keep it going Peyton!
New York Giants (+9) at Chicago Bears
The Giants are playing pretty bad football, but it’s not like the Bears are playing so great right now that they should be favored by nine points. Believe me, I think it’s a stretch for the Giants to go on the road after a short week of rest and earn their first win in Soldier Field. But I’m at least hoping the team can keep it somewhat close. Maybe lose by just a touchdown this week, or even just a field goal. I’m taking the spread on this one.
