With just hours to go before the NFL trading deadline, cornerback Janoris Jenkins has become the most likely Giants player to be dealt. And according to NFL sources, the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers are emerging as his most likely destinations.
Both teams have been scouring the market for cornerbacks, NFL sources said, and were interested when it looked like Patrick Peterson might be available from the Arizona Cardinals. But with Peterson apparently off the market, both have moved on to the second tier, where Jenkins fits in.
Two other teams that had expressed some interest in Jenkins, according to sources, were the New Orleans Saints and the Philadelphia Eagles. Obviously the Saints acquired cornerback Eli Apple from the Giants instead. And it's hard to believe the Giants would trade Jenkins within their own division.
One other team that could emerge as a dark horse: The New England Patriots. Though at the moment they don't appear specifically linked to Jenkins, one source said they are looking for cornerback help, too.
