Now Commenting On:

Tom Coughlin said Will Beatty should be ready for the season, but Giants are still thin at tackle.

The tone in Coughlin's voice isn't encouraging when talking about Beatty's status, I'll give you that, but the Giants have few options at LT should Beatty begin the season on PUP or IR.

Right now, Charles Brown is filling the LT spot. Brown was a second-round draft pick of the Super Bowl Champion Saints out of USC in 2010 and was mainly a reserve until last season, when he started 14 games. Many do not see him as an upgrade over Beatty. The Giants brought him in here for depth purposes, not to start him Day One in their new offense.

Behind Brown are James Brewer and a slew of projects: Steven Baker, Jamaal Johnson-Webb and Rogers Gaines.

The Giants just came into a $5 million windfall in cap space, so maybe they's dial up a few unsigned veterans. The pool out there is shallow, however. Any tackles of worth are RTs, which real doesn't help the Giants.
