He feels disrespected and bitter and will not participate in practice until he receives a raise and a contract extension from the Giants. The Giants, conversely, have not even entertained the thought of reworking the 30-year-old former Pro Bowler's contract.
In addition, they told Osi's agent, Tony Agnone, to cease shopping his client around the league because they feel they will not receive fair market value in return. Rather than have an unhappy "camper" so to speak hanging around, GM Jerry Resse told Osi to go home and "clear his head".
This standoff has become a major distraction to the team. In year where they only have six weeks to get 4 1/2 months of work in, distractions are last thing the Giants - or any team - needs right now.
Speaking of that, first-round pick Prince Amukamara is still unsigned and therefore not at camp. As Tom Coughlin said the other day.."He better get in here" if he is to have any impact on the Giants' defense in 2011. Giants' secondary coach Pete Giunta had this to say about the Prince:
"He will have to come in and compete and he will have to spend the extra time studying to get caught up with these guys as far as the mental aspect of the game goes. We will start working on his technique and try to grab him as much as we can when he is free. We have some volunteer days when players get the days off and we will try to catch him up as best as we can.."
Not a good time to hold out. Not sure what is holding up the process in bringing Amukamara in. The Giants may be hedging on guaranteeing Prince's entire contract. They also could be waiting for some of the picks drafted around him to sign so they can gauge the market.
In other developments, the Giants announced the signing of RB Andre Brown, their fourth round selection from the 2009 NFL Draft who was cut last year. Brown, who came to the Giants with the promise that he would replace Derrick Ward in the "Earth, Wind and Fire" trio, blew out his achilles and never played a down for the Blue. Here's his second chance....
The team also signed OT Stacy Andrews (the brother of Shawn) and WR Michael Clayton is back, too. New TE Ben Patrick is wearing No. 89, Kevin Boss' number....
The the Giants will be back on the field tonight at 6pm. Be there.
